How to Print 5x7 Photos From iPhone on 8.5x11 or A4 Paper
Print 5x7 photos from your iPhone or iPad on letter or A4 paper, two to a sheet: why Photos can't size them, the free Pages route, and the steps in iPrint Printer.
Print it at the size you choose with iPrint Printer on your iPhone — free test prints, then $4.99 a week, $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year. iPrint Printer prints each photo at the size you choose on letter or A4 paper, several to a sheet on your iPhone — free test prints, then $4.99 a week, $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year.
Needs an AirPrint printer on the same Wi-Fi and iOS or iPadOS 26+.
The Photos app has no size setting: it prints a 5x7 only on 5x7 photo paper and enlarges the photo to fill most of an 8.5 x 11 sheet. For real 5x7s on letter or A4, set the size in Apple’s free Pages app, or print two to a sheet with iPrint Printer on an AirPrint printer.
Two 5x7s per sheet is the useful part: a letter or A4 page holds two of them with room to cut. Here’s how to get there for free, how to do it in a few taps, and how to keep the photo from being cropped where it matters.

Why Photos won’t make a 5x7 on letter paper
To print from Photos, you open the photo, tap the Share button and tap Print (Apple’s iPhone User Guide lists no other step), and the print screen asks which printer and how many copies. Nothing on it says how big. iOS sizes the photo to whatever paper the printer reports, so on letter paper a 5x7 photo becomes roughly a 7.5 x 10.5 one. Shrinking the image file first doesn’t change that; the guide to resizing a photo to print explains why.
If your printer takes 5x7 photo paper
Then print from Photos, at no cost: load the 5 x 7 paper as your printer’s manual describes, open the photo, tap Share, then Print, and choose the 5 x 7 paper if the print options list paper sizes. Not every printer feeds 5 x 7 paper, so check its specifications first. On an HP printer, the HP guide shows where photo paper goes and what HP’s own app adds.
Crop the photo to the paper’s shape first, or the printer decides what’s lost. In Photos, tap Edit, then the Crop button, then the aspect ratio button, and choose 5:7 (Apple lists it among the presets, with Square, Wallpaper and 9:16).
iPrint Printer’s paper choices are Letter, A4 and 4 x 6 photo paper, with no 5 x 7, so for 5x7 photo paper Photos is the tool. The rest of this guide is about the more common case: letter or A4 in the tray.
Two 5x7 prints on letter paper for free with Pages
Apple’s free Pages app places pictures at exact sizes. Two 5 x 7 prints fit on an 8.5 x 11 page only one way: each lying sideways, 7 inches wide and 5 inches tall, one above the other. Stood upright, they’d need 14 inches of height, or 10 inches of width.
- In Pages, start a blank document, then check it’s on letter paper: tap the More button, tap Document Options, then Document Setup.
- Add the first photo with the Content Hub button, then More Options, then Choose Photo or Video.
- Select it, tap the Format button, tap Arrange, and set the width to 7 in. For a tall photo, tap Rotate in the same Arrange controls first, so it lies sideways.
- Add the second photo the same way and drag it below the first, leaving a small gap.
- Tap the More button, tap Print, choose the printer and print.
With Constrain Proportions on, the height follows the width, so it lands on 5 inches only if the photo has the 5:7 shape; crop both photos to 5:7 in Photos before you start. Then measure the first sheet before you print the rest. The guide to 4x6 photos on letter paper covers the Pages steps in more detail.
How to print 5x7 photos on letter paper with iPrint Printer
iPrint Printer does that layout for you: choose 5 x 7 and the app turns and stacks the prints itself. It needs a printer that supports AirPrint on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone, and its free test page confirms that before you spend anything.
- Open the app (Printer, on your Home Screen) and tap Print Photos. Pick two photos, or one if you want two copies.
- Tap Size and choose 5 × 7 in.
- Set the copies (with two photos picked, the row reads Copies of Each Photo), then Paper in Your Printer: Letter or A4.
- Check the sheet on screen: the line under it should read “2 prints on 1 sheet of Letter”.
- Tap Print. The first time, choose your printer.
The app sends each print at exactly 5 x 7, turned sideways on the sheet so two fit, with a 3 mm gap between them for the cut. A third photo starts a second sheet. Every photo in a run prints at the one size you chose, so a 5 x 7 for a frame and a sheet of wallets are two runs, each on its own sheet. To see the size on your own printer first, tap Print a Free Test Photo, which costs nothing: a sample picture the app draws, printed at 5 x 7 on your paper.
Each 5 x 7 is filled from the middle of the photo, and the edges that won’t print are dimmed on screen. Tap the crop button next to a photo to move or zoom it, so a face or a horizon isn’t cut.
After the app has reached your printer, it shows the plans: Unlimited Printing is $4.99 a week, $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year, after a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers. If it can’t find your printer, you won’t be asked to pay.
On A4 paper
Set Paper in Your Printer to A4 and the same two 5 x 7 prints fit, again lying sideways. In A4 countries the size menu shows centimetres, so the size to pick reads 12.7 × 17.8 cm. A4 is 210 x 297 mm: a little narrower than letter and about two thirds of an inch taller, so there’s slightly more room top and bottom.
On iPad
Nothing changes on an iPad. Apple’s iPad User Guide gives the same Share, then Print steps in Photos, so a 5x7 there also needs 5x7 photo paper, and Pages for iPad lays the two prints out with the same Format, then Arrange controls, Rotate included.
In iPrint Printer on an iPad with iPadOS 26 or later, choose 5 × 7 in under Size and Letter or A4 under Paper in Your Printer; the sheet on screen shows both prints turned sideways before anything goes to the printer.
Framing a 5x7 print
- Check the opening. A 5x7 frame with a mat shows less than the full print; one without a mat may hide a few millimetres under the lip. If something sits close to the edge of the photo, leave room for it when you crop.
- Trim to the edge. The app leaves white paper around each print, because most printers can’t print to the edge of plain paper. Cut down the middle of the 3 mm gap, then trim each print to its edges.
- Paper matters more at this size. A 5 x 7 is big enough that plain copy paper looks flat. Glossy or matte photo paper in letter size keeps the colours richer; in the app it’s still Letter.
What to know before you buy
The app prints only to AirPrint printers on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone; USB-only and Bluetooth printers are out. It can’t set up a printer’s Wi-Fi or fix a printer that never shows up in the list. The test page and the test photo are free; your own photos need the subscription.
Smaller prints work the same way: 4x6 photos fit two to a letter sheet, 3.5 x 5 photos up to 4, and wallet-size photos up to 8.
FAQ
Can I print 5x7 photos from my iPhone?
Yes. With 5x7 photo paper in a printer that takes it, print from the Photos app. On letter or A4 paper, place the photo at 5 x 7 inches in Pages, or choose 5 x 7 in iPrint Printer, which fits two on a sheet.
How many 5x7 photos fit on an 8.5 x 11 sheet?
Two, lying sideways one above the other. Each is then 7 inches wide and 5 inches tall, so the pair needs 10 inches of the sheet’s 11, which leaves room for the printer’s margins and a cutting gap.
Will printing a 5x7 cut off part of my photo?
A little, usually. iPhone photos are 4:3, 16:9 or square, and a 5 x 7 is 5:7, so something is trimmed to fill it. Crop with the 5:7 preset in Photos first, or move and zoom the photo in iPrint Printer, where the dimmed parts won’t print.
Can I use 5x7 photo paper?
Not in iPrint Printer: its paper choices are Letter, A4 and 4 x 6 photo paper. For 5x7 photo paper, print from the Photos app instead; use the app for 5x7 prints on letter or A4 paper.
